Social shelters for victims of family violence will be created in Belarus

New measures of family violence control are elaborated at the legislative level in Belarus, informed the UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) in Belarus. 

The draft law On Basics of Activity on Prevention from Wrongdoing” is at the follow-up stage in the House of Representatives. Article 16 of the Draft Law “Key preventive measures aimed at prevention from family violence” provides for creation of places for victims of family violence. Moreover, a new preventive measure – restraining order is provided for. It will enable the victims, together with their children, to stay in a safe place unknown to the perpetrator.
The projects of international technical aid “Development of the National Potential of the Republic of Belarus with a View to Preventing from Family Violence under Conditions of Achieving Gender equality” and “Enhancing the National Potential of the State in Prevention from Family Violence” were launched in last June, to be implemented within three years. The projects provide for support of functioning the crisis rooms and a shelter in Lida.
“SOS-Children’s Village Belarusian Fund” Non-Governmental Organization is planning to open a shelter for women and children in Borovliany. “Pokrova” Center for Support of Family and Maternity creates a shelter in Bobruisk. “Radislava” Non-Governmental Organization is going to open a new shelter in Minsk.
