The project “Safe Families for Children Suffered from Violence or Neglect”

On February 25, the first working meeting dedicated to the launch of a new joint project of Hermann Gmeiner’s Fund, NGO “Belarusian Fund SOS Children’s Villages” and the INGO “Ponimanie” took place. The project is launched in the framework of the Federal Republic of Germany’s Belarusian Support Program.

The project “Safe Families for Children Suffered from Violence or Neglect” is aimed at ensuring secure family environment and eradicating violence towards children and at professional advancement of specialists who work in the sphere of prevention of child abuse and neglect. Cooperation with German partners will allow to share most recent and innovative methods, tools and practices for further adapting and implementation.

Three target groups are involved into the project: vulnerable children (suffered from violence and abuse), their caregivers, and specialists who work with children. The project has a holistic approach towards resolving the problem of creating secure environment for children at risk.

The expected results of the project: at least 250 children live in better family environment; at least 250 parents or other caregivers improved their parental skills; specialists enhanced their competences.

The INGO “Ponimanie” specialists are in charge of working out family development plans, holding seminars “Non-Violent Children Upbringing” as well as preparing and conducting information campaign aimed at preventing violence and neglect towards children.
